Online loans in Mexico: what to expect and who to compare
You apply from your phone, fill in a short questionnaire, get an answer in minutes and the money lands in your account the same day — if you applied during business hours. Use it for emergencies: one month's rent, a tax bill you forgot, a school payment. Not for holidays or recurring spending.
The trade-off is the CAT, and it stings. Serious lenders sit around 150%; the less serious go past 250%. Before applying, ask yourself whether you can repay in one month or in three. If the honest answer is «I don't know», step up to a bank personal loan even if it takes two more days.
Over 15 digital SOFOMs operate in Mexico, registered in CONDUSEF's SIPRES public registry. Most are SOFOM E.N.R. (Non-Regulated Entity by CNBV, though still supervised by CONDUSEF for complaints and transparency). The E.N.R. label confuses people: it means CNBV prudential capital rules don't apply, not that the entity is illegal. What matters is that the corporate name appears in SIPRES.
Main SOFOMs by tenure and volume in 2026: Kueski (running since 2012, the oldest), MoneyMan (ID Finance from Spain, since 2016), Credilikeme (from 2019, medium tickets), DiDi Préstamos (inside the DiDi app, for drivers and frequent users), Kondinero, Solcredito and Cozmo (terms up to 18 months), Crediclub (CNBV-regulated SOFOM E.R., lower CAT).
First loan is almost always the smallest — between 500 and 3,500 pesos on most platforms. The system builds your line in tiers: pay on time, next ticket rises. A delay over 7 days drops the tier and takes 2-3 clean loans to recover. This mechanic is common to Kueski, MoneyMan, Cozmo and Solcredito.
About the «first loan 0%» promos advertised by MoneyMan, Credy, Crezu and Binixo: they hold if you pay on the exact cutoff day. One day late retroactively applies the destination SOFOM's standard rate on the full amount. The fine print lives in the contract — read before signing.
Aggregators (Credy, Crezu, Fidea, AndaCrédito, Binixo) don't lend directly: they route your application to allied SOFOMs that compete to send you an offer. The advantage is seeing multiple proposals without filling five forms; the downside, three days of intense mail and calls after submission.
When online loans are NOT the answer: if you need more than 25,000 pesos, or if the comfortable term goes beyond 12 months, or if you qualify for BBVA Personal (6+ months of payroll, salary from 15K, clean Buró). There the bank CAT is 5-10 times lower. Online loans are for small amounts and real urgency, not for recurring consumption.
