How we compare policies
The comparator above lines up Mexico's four most-bought coverages — car, home, major medical (GMM) and life — with indicative annual premiums and deductibles from GNP, Qualitas, AXA, Mapfre and HDI. The numbers are reference values; the real price depends on age, ZIP code, and the sum insured the carrier underwrites.
Before signing, the working rule is the 10% rule (total insurance spend on annual income), reading the carrier's privacy notice, and knowing that complaints route through CONDUSEF — not the CNSF regulator. If you landed here after a bad renewal, the editorial guides explain the clauses that bite most often.
Four coverages, four different calls
- Car — full coverage only stops paying for itself once the car drops under ~$120k MXN. Limited works only for old cars driven rarely. Watch the deductible: 5% of sum insured is standard.
- Home — required by the bank when you have a mortgage; otherwise, the costliest claims are theft and water damage, not fire. Confirm appliances are covered.
- GMM — deductible and co-insurance weigh more than premium. A reasonable minimum sum insured: $2M MXN for CDMX/MTY, $1M in mid-size cities.
- Life — only useful if someone depends on you financially. The 10× annual income rule from the US tends to be too high in Mexico; 5–7× is more realistic.
Before paying the first premium
If financial loose ends are still open, the personal loan and debt consolidation sections help free up cash flow before committing to an annual premium. To gauge overall credit health, the Buró score simulator gives an idea without touching the real Buró.
