BanBajío: the local advantage
If you work in León, Irapuato, Celaya or Salamanca and your company or industry has an account at BanBajío, it's worth asking for personal credit there first. Regional client knowledge matters: BanBajío approvals at 36% APR for the same profile that BBVA or Santander quoted at 42-44% are common. It doesn't always happen, but enough to justify the inquiry.
For footwear and tannery commerce
The leather-footwear sector has specific credit products at BanBajío and Banorte: loans to merchants with market flow (Plaza del Calzado, Hidalgo, San Juan) requiring only 6 months of bank movement without formal payroll. APR between 32% and 48% by history.
If you work at an automotive corridor plant
GM (Silao), Volkswagen (Puebla but with a Silao plant), Mazda (Salamanca), Honda (Celaya), Toyota (Apaseo). All have active agreements with at least one of the top banks. Preferential rate 8-12 points below the public listing for employees with 6+ months tenure.
Typical León and Bajío ticket
Between 45,000 and 168,000 pesos over 24-48 months. Uses: footwear-trade inventory in season (July-August and November-December), shop remodeling, business-debt consolidation, used car.
